Today is me and Casey's three year anniversary. It hasn't been the easiest or the most continuous road but I don't want to focus on that. I want to focus on the wonderful memories we do have. Such as uncontrollable laughter after he accidentally knocked a bowl full of flour all over me and the floor. Or the perfect feeling of crawling into his lap, curling up and laying on his belly. And running to hug him right after my college graduation ceremony. Or trying to have a picture taken of us and he chooses to lick my head and having that picture end up being one of my favorite pictures anyway.

Since I shared Waffles' adoption story, I figured it would only be appropriate to share Rupert and Izzie's as well. Rupert and Izzie were kind of impulse adopted. We had talked about adopting a cat, put weren't exactly planning to the day we got Izzie and Rupert. The setting was a few days before Christmas; I suggested to Casey that we just see what cats they had before we got dinner and saw The Hobbit. You can probably guess where this is going. Rupert and Izzie (at the time named Hannah) were together in a cage at 4 months old with a note that they are bonded and should be adopted together. Part of why they were bonded is because they are from the same litter! Yes, our Mr. Rupert and Miss Izzie and brother and sister.

Casey always wanted a tortoiseshell cat and Izzie just happened to be exactly that. We went in and got to hold them; I held Rupert and Casey held Izzie. They immediately started crawling up on our shoulders and then Rupert nuzzled me! I turned to Casey and said "he nuzzled me, we have to get them!". Casey was hesitant because he didn't want to get two cats. But the adoption counselor was very persuasive about two cats being better than one.

We told the adoption counselor we needed to talk about it then we'd be back. Well there wasn't much discussion because really Casey was already saying yes but just couldn't admit he was saying yes. We picked up my checkbook and hurried back to get them! I went around shopping while Casey did the paperwork. They were a bit sick so they gave us medicine they had been giving them. Then we took them home! As you probably guessed, we didn't make it to The Hobbit that night.

They explored the apartment fairly quickly but spent most of their time under the coffee table or snuggling with us on the couch. We even did a little laser pointer play, sending them up the walls. I faught to keep Rupert named Rupert because I really liked the name. However we wanted to change Izzie /Hannah's name; Casey's friend brainstormed some names for us and we both really like Isabella. Just like that, she was renamed.

As I mentioned the little kittens were sick and they kept getting worse and worse (if you couldn't tell by how nasty Rupert looks in some of the pictures) . Once we got them to the vet he gave us better antibiotics and some gel for their eyes (which had gotten very red). I had the pleasure of administering their medications and they got better fairly quickly.

Now they're 10 1/2 months old and basically full grown. It's really hard to remember how tiny they were when we got them without looking at the pictures. Rupert, especially, has grown a bunch. He's a little over 12 pounds! He is our big, big boy. I can't help but pat his big belly whenever I hold him. Izzie is keeping things petite at a little over 9 pounds. We were actually surprised she was even that much. She's so itty bitty, especially compared to Rupert. It's been amazing having them, they are the best kitties.

Oh man, now I'm reminiscing about their adoption and how adorable they were, and how adorable they are now. I need to go snuggle them now, kbye.

Look at this beast of a blanket. I knew when I finished college I wanted to start getting busy with crafting. The Giant Granny Square Blanket had been on my mind since first seeing it and seemed like a manageable large project. After Meredith completed hers, I was convinced this would be a fun project and I made it one of my summer goals. This blanket is and will probably remain the largest yarn project I ever made. Surprisingly, it only took about a month of casual crochet to complete!

Meredith was not joking when she said this project eats up yarn. I don't even remember how many times I went to Michael's while working on this blanket. I had to have been at least 7-8 times, including going 3 times one week. One day I went to pick up more yarn and I had apparently already bought all the cream color in TWO stores! I had to go a third store where they thankfully had some.

I used the pattern from Purl Bee except that I repeated colors instead of using a different color each color round. I also substituted with Loops & Threads™ Cozy Wool yarn from Michael's. The colors I used include Fleece, Spearmint, Golden Rod, Thunder, Velvet, and Clematis. I tried to keep track of how much I used of each, but I got so caught up in the project that I kept forgetting to mark it down!

Izzie loooved whenever I would bring this blanket to work on at Casey's. She would climb into my lap and knead it and then lay down (you can see the photo evidence here, she also licked me). Which was adorable but also made it difficult for me to keep working since I couldn't rotate the blanket with her on it! I'm thinking of making her a mini version with the left over yarn since I probably won't be hauling this massive thing over to Casey's anymore.

Waffles made an appearance when I was taking photos, mostly because she saw a bird outside. I'm not sure how I'm going to store this blanket. For now folding it over the end of the bed, as pictured above, seems best. I would fold it up more but it is HEAVY which makes folding it semi-tiring. I will be using it every night too, so why burden myself with the folding and unfolding every day.

What large projects have you taken on recently? Would you crochet this giant blanket?

I am a very visual person. Being very visual can cause difficulties sometimes. Difficulties such as not clearly remembering previously laid out plans or wants and goals and just general forgetfulness. To combat these difficulties, I made myself what I call a "Get it Together" binder. When I made this binder I was kind of fed up with myself. I was fed up with constantly losing myself and continuously wasting time and not working towards anything. I needed to, well, get "it" together; "it" being myself. I keep this binder on top of my desk, I never put it away fearing I'll forget everything I put inside it.

Items I have in this binder include:

// Year Long Calendar. I have a year long calendar so I can keep in mind where I am within the larger span of the year. This is important because I have some long term events that are months away which I'm looking forward to. Those events (which occur in a year) keep me going a lot of the time so it's nice to see how much closer I get each month.

// Monthly Calendars. I'll keep a few monthly calendars rotating so I can write down more specific occurrences. I use the monthly calendars to plan things like baking, or things I need to do for blog posts. I also use the monthly calendars for things I just need to remember like season premiers of TV shows or movies being released.

// Goals. I keep my goal lists within this binder as well. Currently I have my summer goals, 22 by 23, and money goals.

// Erin Web. I drew a web to have a visual representation of myself. The web helps me keep in mind who I am, where I plan to go, and what I do. For example I have a present section (which is now out of date since I'm in a limbo between present and near-future) which lists me as undergrad student and research assistant. Then I have a near future where I list potential jobs. Finally a future section which includes being a graduate student which will lead to being a guidance counselor. Then I have other sections such a hobbies and blogger.

// Portrait of INFJ. I printed out a portrait of an INFJ (my Meyers-Briggs type) because it is a very accurate description of me and it's useful sometimes to have that written out because it can help me when I'm feeling lost. When I read it sometimes I understand my behavior and thought processes more and in turn I can better tackle whatever is going on.

// Timeline. I have a personal time line of how I would like my life to go. This timeline is helpful to me because it helps me remember what I want and when I plan to have it happen in my life. For example getting a job, apply and going to graduate school, moving, getting married, starting my career, starting a family, etc.

// Casey Stuff. The Casey Stuff sleeve includes love notes he's written me and cards he's given me. Some of these are from trying times in our relationship, so they're nice to look back on to remember how strong we are. I also have a list of things I need(ed) to work on to make our relationship even better and make us both happier.

How do you keep track of all the craziness in your life?

When I saw this image on Pinterest, it really hit home for me and how I had been feeling the past few days. While this quote definitely speaks true to many aspects of life, for me this line specifically spoke to how I felt about starting my own blog. Even though I know I shouldn't compare myself to other bloggers, I still found myself doing exactly that. I would have thoughts like my photographs hardly ever turn out that well or I don't have the wardrobe to produce multiple and good what I wore posts. I find the process of changing my thoughts to be fairly difficult. I need to continuously remind myself: these ladies are seasoned bloggers and photographers. While you are not there now, you can be in time; remember time. The only way I can start enjoying blogging and really commit is to remember this is my blog, and I will make it fabulous even if that takes time. Everything takes time.

Since I am addicted to lists and goal making, I had to make a summer specific goal list. I feel this summer is somewhat different and special because it's the first summer following college. It represents the beginning of making the best of my "year off" before graduate school.

1// Start blogging. I never felt like I had time during school to truly blog. I admire the bloggers I follow and the blogging community in general. I want to be a part of this community and have a place to document, well everything I want to document. From recipes, adventures, crafting, personal style, and more.

2// Play video games. Another thing I never felt I had time for, I mentioned a specific goal of 6 video games in my 22 by 23 but I added the generality to my summer goals because I wanted to make sure I don't push it off!

3// Make ice cream & popsicles. What's better during summer than nice, cold ice cream and popsicles. Time to make that goodness in the home so I can get the exact flavors I want (like chocolate ice cream WITH cookie dough), yum.

4// Crochet giant granny square blanket. I've already started this one, hooray! I'm almost half way done and I can't believe how big it is already. I consider just keeping it smaller but then I think no, I want this thing to be massive and always cover me; I don't want to worry about cold toes.

5// Practice yoga. I quit going to yoga for several reasons and of course again, a major one was time. I really enjoy it though so I need to get back to it.

6// Finish A Song of Ice and Fire series. I've got two more books to go. Granted, two more books means ~2000 pages but still; that's a lot further in than I used to be! I'm also ahead of the show and that's really what matters isn't it? My brother, his girlfriend, and my boyfriend have all read the series and I always worry about them spoiling me.

7// Yarn bombing. This is something I'm really nervous to do, but I would enjoy adding a bit of yarn cheer to the scenery of whatever place falls victim. Maybe I can use the scrap yarn from the granny square blanket.

8// Create my own succulent garden. It seems like succulents are starting to become pretty big on the interwebs and I just adore some of the arrangements I've seen online. I really love the purple succulents, they're so pretty. My desk needs a new piece of greenery since my last plant died, sad face.

9// Take lots of pictures. This will definitely help with keeping this blog running. Not to mention it'll be nice to document memories and beauty in the world. That didn't sound too cheesy did it... oh well! I also want to just build up my confidence with taking pictures, especially in public, and especially especially when it may be a bit odd to be taking pictures. I don't like attracting attention to myself.

10// Buy the perfect summer outfit. Nothing makes you feel good like the perfect outfit. I want to celebrate having an excellent summer by having the perfect outfit.

Do you have any summer goals?

p.s. Isn't the photo of Waffles adorable? I admire her balance and ab strength. She can always lift up and hold at an angle to smell or inspect something. I just LOVE her paws too. Okay I'm done.

3) I want to try out making popsicles this summer and these Mango and Strawberry ones seem perfect!

These goals go along a general theme: they're for fun. This next year is my year to just live my life essentially; to gather experiences and grow. I want to make the most of this year that I can. I don't want to waste time, I want to use my time well to be who I know I am. I don't want to be idle a lot because that is often when things can go down hill for me. I don't want to go down that hill anymore. I want to do the things I like to do; the things I never felt I had the time for. I have the time now and need to remember to use time well.

1// Collect silly pens. For Easter my mom got me this quirky duck pen (pictured above) that quacks when you push down the head. For some reason I love that silly pen and it has inspired me to get some more fun and silly pens.

2// Apply & be accepted to graduate school. I decided to take a year break in between college and graduate school. I will use that break to re-energize and not get burnt out after or during grad school. I also want to build up my resume to help my applications. The application process will begin this fall!

3// Go to Of Monsters & Men concert. Of Monsters & Men is my favorite band and it is the ONLY band that I say "I knew them before they were cool". This one is already in the works of happening. My Casey dear got me tickets for when they come to town in June!

4// Successfully make truffles. I frequently see truffle recipes on the internet and think oh yummy! I still haven't gotten around to actually making some though. That needs to change.

5// Complete a quilt. I took a quilting class a while back and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't quilted since though, unfortunately. I really wish to change that. I love quilts, there's just a since of care I feel whenever I use a quilt. I always feel a smile spreading across my face when I see and use a quilt.

6// Read 12 books. Reading is something that definitely got left behind while I was in school. I never felt I had the time to read. But that just won't be acceptable any longer.

7// Get a job. This goal is important to other goals! I've semi started the job hunt. There's this one job that I'm most interested in; good pay and flexible hours which is very appealing. Hopefully I can continue to be a research assistant. But we shall see what comes together in the next few months.

8// Complete 6 video games. Oh video games, a hobby that I avoid too much. This has been a time issue and a computer issue. During school I never feel like I had time to game and my computer likes to make gaming more challenging than it needs to be. But there are many games on my list that I will not let sit around anymore.

9// Go on a brewery tour. Beer is good. Seeing how beer is made then tasting it is also good. Therefor I must do this.

10// Visit Artisan Confections. I've had their chocolate but I've never actually gone to their store. I want to go to one of the stores are stare in awe at the shelves of chocolate.

11// Start saving money. I have a lot of expenses that will be coming up in my future. My computer is on my last legs so I'll be needing a new one of those. Not to mention I'll be moving out on my own and starting from scratch basically. So that obviously requires money. Not to mention the student loans that are headed my way. I'm about to start my life so I should be starting it out on as best of a foot that I can.

12// Go see a movie at a drive-in. Going to a drive-in seems like a really exciting, fun, and unique experience. Luckily we have one relatively near by so I'd really enjoy going, curling up with blankets in Casey's truck with yummy food and the warm night sky.

13// Stay at a DoubleTree by Hilton. This is almost purely because I want one of those cookies. And just the general experience. It is as simple as that.

14// Tour Ben & Jerry's in Vermont. I love Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. I'd really like to have the experience of being all touristy by visiting them in Vermont.

15// Go to Disney Land. I have been to Disney World but not Disney Land. A couple Casey and I know are moving out to California and invited us to stay with them some time. So hopefully we can actually do that and then go to Disney Land!

16// Complete a large knitting project. Since I have more free time now I really want to focus and develop my hobbies. Knitting is one of those hobbies and I usually lake the commitment to finish a large project. But no longer!

17// Hike Billy Goat Trail. I try to include a goal involving nature. When I was younger I did this trail with my Dad so it's not entirely new to me. The C&O Canal is pretty neat and again it's been a while since I've gone so I'd like to go again soon.

18// Sew myself a dress. This is a goal that got left behind last year. I already have patterns and fabric, I just need to get to actual sewing!

19// Successfully hand-make ravioli. I really want to try making pasta and ravioli seemed like a good place to start (especially because I don't think I'll need anything too special to make it).

20// Go on a day trip with Casey. Nothing is better than spending time with my honey. I'd really love to spend a day riding in the truck somewhere new and just have an adventure together.

21// Go to a midnight showing of a movie. I've only done this once before and I'd like to do it again (hopefully with less teeny boppers this time). I think The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug may be a good movie to do this with.

22// Make a new friend. This may seem kind of sad, but it's not entirely. I've always struggled with making friends. I always feel like people like me enough, but they don't necessarily want to be my friend. I've made a lot of strides with my social anxiety and I hope my experiences in the future will help me build new and lasting friendships.

Exactly one month ago I brought home this lovely and fluffy little girl. My life had been feeling like it had a hole and I knew a kitten was exactly what I needed. I headed over to our local pet store (where a rescue rents a space) to see who they had. Then I saw her, I saw the b-e-a-u-t-ful Waffles. I fell in love with her instantly. Unfortunately, there wasn't an adoption counselor in sight! So I headed home and thought about her all night.

The next morning I waited anxiously through errands with my dad until we got home again so I could jump into my car. I pretty much ran to my car upon arriving home and went straight to Waffles. I was so afraid someone would swoop in and steal her from me, I would have been devastated. But luckily she was still there, sleeping away in her bed, and so was an adoption counselor (there I mean, not sleeping haha)! I took her out to pet her and she almost immediately starting cuddling up against me, I knew she was meant to be my kitten. We got the paperwork under way, I did some shopping, then she was mine to take home.

She slept the first couple of days and was of course adorable. She progressively got more playful and she becomes a little speed racer when she's all full of energy. She follows me around the house almost constantly, like my own little shadow. She even waits by the door for a good amount of time whenever I leave. She is very talkative, always letting me know she's there and what's up. She loooves looking out the window at birds and does so while sitting on my bed and waiting for me to wake up. I'm very much looking forward to spending the next 15 years (fingers crossed!) with her.

Pumpkin-Chocolate Bread Pudding Bites recipe from "Sweet Designs" by Amy Atlas

This past weekend we had a family get together at my brother's house. Since they were providing dinner, I offered to make dessert. My brother and sister-in-law had gotten me a few cookbooks for my birthday, one of them being Sweet Designs by Amy Atlas. Lately I have been wanting to use the books more, so this was a perfect opportunity. I picked the Pumpkin-Chocolate Bread Pudding Bites. And boy, were they yumm-ee! Almost as yummy as their new puppy! They got a blue Great Dane puppy and she is the most beautiful thing ever and not to mention how soft she is! Sigh, I'm in love. I like to pick her up and hold her as much as I can now because soon I won't be able to. Her mother is 130lbs so we're expecting her to be just as big. Soon she will be knocking us over, but I will still let her lay in my lap.

While I was wandering around campus the Dessis M. Moxley Gardens were open! Of course I had to jump inside and take pictures. They had a section filled with flowers to attract butterflies (my favorite). The butterflies were very kind with posing for me. They were probably like "there, now go away human". I loved the geometric shape benches too.

I thought it would be fun to share a peak of my college campus! One of the reasons I fell in love with Maryland is the campus, it is so beautiful. I also thought it would be cool to make this into a mini series during my last year at Maryland. I am going to take pictures of the campus during each season because honestly it looks wonderful no matter what season it's wearing.

1// Fun fact! Jim Henson, creator of The Muppets, attended University of Maryland. We have this statue outside of our student union to show our pride.

2// This is one entrance (and the prettiest) to our student union, more commonly called "STAMP" because of its namesake, Adele H. Stamp. The building is a lot bigger from what you're probably getting from the picture.

3// McKeldin Library is our main library on campus and is at one end of our academic mall. University of Maryland has the largest academic mall in the country.

4// Anne Arundel Hall is one of the honors dorms on campus located right behind the library. I wanted to make sure you got the feeling of the architecture that I love so much on this campus.

5// These are some really neat fountains by our art-sociology building.

6// The Capital One football stadium, home to the University of Maryland Terrapins!

7// This piece is actually on the side of the alumni building and I only discovered it on my walk back from the stadium (which I walked all the way over to only to realize it was locked).

8// Testudo! Testudo is a terrapin and he is our mascot. We have a few of these type statues around campus. This one I discovered by the alumni center, there's another in front of McKeldin (most popular), and a hollow one inside of STAMP. I'm sure there are probably more that I don't know about but there are also other statues that are painted with designs.

9// His nose is shiny because it's tradition to rub the nose for good luck! Around finals, students will leave snacks and such for the Testudo outside of McKeldin.

I hope you enjoyed the mini tour!

It is currently 90º but tonight Casey and I are going out and celebrating fall by getting some of Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale. Earlier today I realized that it was probably released since all the other fall brews from other companies were out. Then I checked the website and it iiiiis. So we're going out tonight! Then going home and probably play Guild Wars 2.

Well it is that time of year again; the fall semester starts tomorrow. This fall semester will be my last as an undergraduate student (eek). Tomorrow I will need to flip the switch and get into school mode. This semester I came up with some goals to help me grow as a student and a person. I have been getting better at self discipline and completing more to-do lists so I believe these goals are attainable.

1// Talk in Class. I am very shy and talking in class has been a huge problem for me. Not talking in class rarely damages my grade like teachers want me to think. However, I go into class with much anxiety about talking. I get anxious I'll be called on or I won't be able to come up with something to say. This also ties in with my lack of confidence, especially in my intelligence. I made some progress during the winter and spring semester but I want to be even better. I want to be at the point where I don't even think about talking in class as a problem.

2// Complete or At Least Start Assignments 1 Week Early. At the end of last semester I started the practice of getting assignments done early. Boy, did it feel wonderful! I felt so good the day before an assignment was due knowing I wouldn't have to worry about it. I want to feel that way all semester.

3// Interact with Instructors and Professors. I will be applying to graduate school in a few months and that means recommendation letters. Getting close to my instructors and professors will be important for obtaining good recommendation letters.

4// Get Over Public Speaking. This is similar to speaking in class but presenting also has it's own issues. I frequently forget what I want to say, ignore my note cards, stumble on my words, and talk too fast during presentations. I want a similar resolution to talking in class; I want to get up for a presentation with no anxiety and get my point across clearly and efficiently.

5// Work as a Research Assistant. One of the perks of going to a research university is the opportunity to work in a lab on campus. There are a few labs I'm interested in, hopefully I'll get a spot as a research assistant in one of them. Being a research assistant will also help with my grad school application.

What are your goals for school or work?

Erinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01098434331222462375noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-982354770919416998.post-10836998279487842662012-08-27T12:37:00.003-07:002012-08-27T12:37:42.501-07:00Sale Shopping
